홍길동 (Hong Gildong) is a legendary figure in Korean literature, whose story is told in the classic novel "홍길동전" (The Tale of Hong Gildong), attributed to the writer 허균 (Heo Gyun) in the early 17th century. This tale is considered one of the earliest Korean novels written in Hangul.
허균 (Heo Gyun) Historical records show that 허균, born in 1569, was a prominent literary figure and government official during the late 16th and early 17th centuries. He was known for his progressive ideas and criticism of social inequality, themes that are reflected in the story of Hong Gildong.
